In the attic photograph at left we show a mix of green gray and white attic mold.

When moisture condenses on plywood roof sheathing repeatedly or continuously the wood will turn black.
When looking for attic mold trace both leak.
If the wood is soft if it s easily imprinted when you push on it it s probably rotten.
Black mold can be identified by its often slimy texture dark greenish black sometimes gray color and growth that appears as spots or patches that spread over time.
In old houses you ll usually see some spots that are stained dark or black where there was a roof leak at some point in time which was repaired but the stain remains.
If the dark surface of the wood smudges it could be mold.
Mold growing on the sheathing in your attic is a serious problem that shouldn t be ignored.
Be sure to inspect the entire area to rule out the possibility of other fungi affected areas.

Also inspect the cause of black fungi growth and fix it.
